30

even though it took me so long.. i finally finished doing my 30 day challenge. Here is day #30, something you want to tell your friends. I guess what I realized is that, as i grew older i lost a lot of imagination. Sometimes it comes out, but working in this industry i feel like we as artist need to be imaginative every day, with everything that we do. Also we must look at things we see in a different way than how others might see it. I borrowed the colors from a Leyendecker piece, just wanted to make something simple. There are a lot of things that i want to learn, i hope i have enough time to learn all of them.
also,
here's a stop motion that i did yesterday with a couple of friends

24 Japan

I grew up reading Japanese comic books and cartoons.
Naturally, in high school I took Japanese Language as a class for 4 years.
Even though I haven't had the pleasure of visiting; I have always admired their culture.
They keep up with tradition while accepting the new; and the dedication and pride to their products are unbeatable anywhere else in the world. Someday I will visit this country :)

20 + Joan

 comics are hard...
Also, just started watching mad men, Christina Hendricks' character - Joan, is a sexy, voluptuous woman.
I realized how awesome 1950s fashion was. Wish people still dressed like that nowadays.

#18 a couple

#17 - my favorite holiday

Finally came back from my Indonesia trip and my Vegas trip. I have a lot of catch up to do, gotta start practicing like crazy before the school year starts.
Anyway, my favorite holiday is the Christmas holiday, the air just feels different during the Christmas time, everything is so festive and wonderful. My best memories of Christmas is a tradition that my family does every December 5th. Before the big Christmas day at the 25th, in Indonesia there is a tradition of putting grass in our shoes. In the morning the kids will wake up and see that Santa's reindeer have eaten the grass from the shoes and a treat is left as thank you from Santa. I loved that tradition, from going around the neighborhood cutting people's grass and setting it up on our shoes; of course waking up in the morning to grass scattered floor and empty shoes with a gift on top is a sweet surprise.

day#15

I've been lagging on posts for the last couple of days, I'm actually back in Indonesia right now after 8+ years of being in the US. Flying took a long time and was pretty tiring... but plus side is pretty good airplane food and watching free movies while flying the long flight. It's been a couple of nights that we've been here and tomorrow we're going to fly again to the other end of the island to see my grandma. Home brings back so many memories, it's really quite amazing how much changed in 8 years.

Anyway, getting back into drawing again after the little break. Continuing my 30 day challenge; #15 is my favorite video game character. As one of the few games that I've finished, Professor Layton is one of my favorite games that I've ever played.

#13, tigers, lions, goats and snakes!

#13: a group picture.

Speed painting of a boy and a tiger. Watched an episode of fatal attractions with my mom and saw a story about a man and his tiger.

Another illustration that i did with my friends, this week's theme is chimera. I decided to do a traditional Greek chimera. I need to study more animal anatomy. Decided to do cleaner shapes than how i typically paint.

#12 and a little red..

a little late, but here's day#12. Been skipping a couple days because things came up. But; here's day#12 - an inanimate object. Painting these things are really fun and it's relaxing to just draw and paint !

my friends and I are doing some viz dev projects over the summer break. Our first story is the classic little red riding hood story. I tried to make some thumbnails for little red. I definitely need to do more of these as well as push the shapes. I tried to make a layout for it too since i should be practicing with crafting a portfolio soon.

#11 & recollection

A continuation of my 30 day challenge. #11 is my favorite food; really it's making me hungry just painting it. about an hour with reference. The second painting is also painted with reference; it's a challenge painting made with a group of friends to do an illustration every week based on a word. This week's word was recollection. The next one will be chimera.
