crystal ball project - SUMMER!!!

Finals is over! I finally have a chance to take a breather. The days after finals were busy with celebrations and fun - but now it's time to get back to work. I've been having fun sketching around without having the pressure to show it in class or to use it for any project.
also...
Congratulations my friends who graduated! You were all my mentors and my extended family. I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many talented friends around me who inspire me to do great things. I wish the best of luck for them.

This was what I turned in to my class for our final. 3 story beats from the crystal ball tale by Grimm's Brothers. The story is full of interesting twist and turns and also plot holes. However it was really fun to try to emulate high fantasy; including working with vfx - something I've never tried before. These definitely need more work but I am still proud of how it turned out. I learned so much this past school year. Next year is BFA!! Got to Fire it Up!!

The Crystal Ball

We started on a new project a couple of days ago, and it's based on a Grimm's Fairytale called "The Crystal Ball" you can read it here! The story is short but it's very full of interesting moments and imageries. For this assignment we have to come up with 3 story moments, We are not required to make any characters; but since we will show them it would be a good idea if we design some. This assignment is really fun and I wish I had more time to get into it even more. I chose to base it off medieval Russia. They have beautiful ornate patterns on their buildings. Very fun. Hopefully I can finish these soon and show it when it's finished. Finals week!

Frankenpossum and Igor (and extras!)

We just wrapped up our project - the racing game with native california animals as drivers and gunners. I really had fun with this project, i really enjoyed creating the story and personality behind the characters. The car I still need to finish more. I had some difficulty with it but I definitely had a lot of fun trying to create a vehicle that fits my character and also fit the assignment. I had problems with the project as always but I'm so glad I finally have a work flow that works for me.

This is a lego assignment that our teacher - gave us. We have to create modules out of Legos and we have to paint on top of it - reimagining it as a workable building structure.

also, I didn't show these or my other car ideations, but I had difficulty on them as I said before and decided to choose a few that I really like and mix them together.

Updates on Animal Racing Game

Some updates on my animal racing game characters. I made new pairings now just based on possums because my last set was too wide. I really like the Bonnie and Clyde idea as well as my Professor Frankenstein and the Evil Knievel pairings. I ended up choosing Frankenstein and Igor and now I have to make trucks for them.

A few ideations on the trucks for my pairings.

Practice practice

trying to do some speed paintings lately. From life, pictures and imagination. I feel better about my painting skills than I did a couple years ago - but definitely not to the level that I want it to be. Got to keep at it!

Animals & Trucks

Some new updates to what I've been working on since last time. Our new assignment is a game project. We have to create a pair of California native animals to be the participant of a 4WD lifted-pimped out-monster powered- Trucks. One of the character is the driver and the other is the gunners. The aim is to create something Mario-kart like; focusing more on the vehicle design and the relationship between the character and the car.

Spring Break!

It's right in the middle of Spring Break at the moment for us San Jose kids. It's nice to get a chance to recharge. But it still means I have to bring it for when school comes back. I need to do my group works but I finally caught up with errands that I should have done a long time ago. And I have time to do some painting for fun!

also some word of the weeks from classes a couple of weeks ago. "Tractor Pull", "Godzilla", and "Dilute"

1980s New York Flower Shop

Some Final pages from the New York City project from my Advanced Illustration Class. It was a lot of learning and I had a lot of fun also doing the project. Definitely need to work on my Environment and work on my volumes and light.

New York Project - Character

I went missing there for a few weeks, but I was gone for a good  reason. We're starting on a new project for our Advanced Illustration class. It's based on a flower shop in 80's New York. It's been a lot of fun trying to bring the feel of the time and culture of New York in the 80's. Here are some initial character designs for the Flower Shop Owner.

Here's the second week of ideations. Focusing more on portraying the feeling of a flower shop owner at first glance. I added flower textile patterns from the 80's as well; to add more of an indication of the time and culture.

Here's what I chose to go forward with to the final. Tiny Grandma Rosie! I need to work on this some more. Hopefully it will look more finished and defined when I am done.

Here's a really rough Maya Model I made to make sure that the lights and volumes are correct.
Here's the first pass of the Render using the maya model as an example.
Next week is the final! Almost done - but need to work super hard to make it look better!
