Winter Break is starting..

The semester just ended, and after a few days of rest I finally recovered from the craziness of finals and some post final sickness. Definitely had one of the craziest and most amazing semester of my life.

1. I had the opportunity to work in a small project with my teacher and 4 other students to create a small commercial for a good cause. (Brandon's Goal - video here)
2. Had the chance to go to Ottawa for the Ottawa International Film Festival and had such an amazing and inspiring time.
3. Went to CTN and volunteered - meet so many amazing artist that terrified and inspired me at the same time.
4. Had the opportunity to work with Dave Yee on his thesis project called Jimmy Loves Juice! ( here's the trailer!)
5. Taking my first Illustration class ever since 113b a year ago. (and learned so much!)
6. Taking a class with the amazing Barron Storey
7. Experimented with stop motion animation for our Physics of animation class (footsteps!)
8. My first semi - interview for an internship.
9. Visiting Pixar and becoming a WIA member.

Really, I couldn't believe that it was only 4 months ago that Summer break just ended and fall semester started. So many things have happened and everything felt like it was so long ago. I look back and realized how much I learned and experienced and just feel really grateful. I am really excited for the next semester and also this break. Hoping I can learn and grow even more before school comes back around.

Here are my final paintings for the Gary Soto Tree House project. Definitely not perfect or 100% correct but I learned so much from painting these paintings.

updates_11.12.13

Been working on a new project these last few weeks for our intermediate illustration class. Still in the Gary Soto 1950s Fresno universe but now it is a treehouse design project.Up top are a couple paintings i did for photoshop practice using Dice Tsutumi's digital painting method. The three under are practice paintings for the treehouse project. The last few are ideations, prop studies and some exploration for exterior shot for the treehouse. It's getting to the last couple months before finals, gotta fire it up!

kitchens kitchens kitchens

Just finished the Gary Soto project for my intermediate illustration class today. We worked on these paintings for a long time and I'm glad that it's over. I definitely feel like I learnt a lot from this project and I'm really glad that I actually like the paintings I ended up with at the end. While I realize that there's a lot I have to fix with how I paint using layers, it was a great learning experience and I can't wait for the next one.

kitchens and bedrooms and bears

For both of my conceptual and beginning illustration classes we are doing rooms. On top is the Gary Soto project and we can either do a kitchen or a garage. It's my second time now doing an isometric. It's really fun to do research and trying to make your interpretation of a room. The second picture is a picture of a miniature model I made for class. We create a character and make a room where our characters live. For this particular room I have a 45 year old lonely hoarder lady called Lori;this is her room. It was really fun to make these models, it reminds me of my childhood because I've always liked to make these mini models. sadly the assignment asked for a set and this is not really a classical stage set. However, when we shine lights on our models it suddenly becomes 50 times better than how it was before. Inspiring for sure.

one last thing. Here's some silly stop motion I made Tuesday night

updates!

Quick update on stuff that I've worked on since the semester started. We're getting more in depth with Photoshop boot camp and some ideations for woodland critters for an exciting and fun short film thesis project I'm volunteering on this semester with Dave Yee.
